We are thrilled to welcome Tim Newman, Jr. to the Dragons coaching staff as our Running Backs Coach for the upcoming season. This marks his first year on staff, and he brings with him an impressive resume of both playing experience and proven success on the field.
Tim’s football journey began at Charlotte Country Day School, where he quickly established himself as one of the top private school running backs in North Carolina. Making an immediate impact, he rushed for 897 yards and 14 touchdowns as a true freshman—setting the tone for a standout high school career. He earned All-Conference honors twice, was a three-time Offensive MVP, and was selected to the Under Armour Elite Camp during both his freshman and junior years.
He later transferred to Myers Park High School, where he continued to excel, helping lead his team to back-to-back conference championships in his junior and senior seasons. His outstanding performance earned him a selection to the inaugural Queen City Senior Bowl. By the end of his high school career, Tim had amassed over 3,500 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns.
A highly sought-after recruit, Tim received multiple Division I offers before choosing Presbyterian College. He later transferred to Johnson C. Smith University, where he continued to shine—earning Food Lion Player of the Game honors and being named Offensive Player of the Game against Winston-Salem State.
Last season, Tim was one of our starting running backs and made a major impact. His standout performance came against Barber-Scotia College, where he rushed for 121 yards on just 12 carries and added a touchdown.
Now, Tim Newman Jr. transitions from standout player to coach, bringing passion, experience, and a winning mindset to our program. The future is bright for our running backs under his leadership
