Dragons Battle Hard in Salisbury Showdown
It was a fierce clash in Salisbury as the Dragons reignited an old CIAA rivalry with the Blue Bears. Despite a tough loss, the Dragons showed grit, heart, and flashes of brilliance that prove this young team is on the rise.
With starting quarterback Max Zavala sidelined since October 11th against Morgan State, the Dragons leaned on the Newman brothers, who ran hard behind a developing offensive line.
Backup QB Nico Cleaves stepped up in a big way, launching a 61-yard bomb to Terrel Ashley to tie the game at 7-7 and electrify the crowd. Montrell Wright had five catches for 72 yards setting up Jacob Newman's touchdown. Jacob Newman bulldozed his way into the end zone on a 3-yard run, leveling the score again at 14-14 with just under eight minutes left in the half.
The defense came alive too—Kevon Gregory continued his standout season with another blocked field goal before halftime, adding to his team-leading six interceptions. Jason Murray and Izaunti Brooks each recorded a sack, bringing pressure and intensity to the line of scrimmage.
The Dragons may have fallen to 3-5, but the fight is far from over. This team is young, hungry, and learning fast. Every game is a step forward, and the fire is building.
Stay tuned—this story is just getting started.
